• Off The Road
Step back about 4 years and that is when I first purchased my Marin Wolf Ridge. Since then it has been my 'knobbly' tired bike and the bike of choice for commuting and general use. In that time it has clocked up several thousand miles and only causing one little problem. Yet ...

welcome to 2008

This is the traditional ‘first’ post of the year, you know the ones where we all discuss our plans for the coming year.

Looking back at 2007

On a personal level 2007 has been a bit of a mixed up year, full of ups and downs with the odd twist.
The highlight of the year without doubt had to be tv birth of by neice Francessa but that did not happen until July so lets back track a bit.

  • Can We Have Some Order Mr. Chairman?
Last night I chaired my first committee meeting. During the Annual General Meeting of the local cycle club last month, chairman Peter Whitely decided to step down as chairman. During the silence that followed and the prolonged silence after volunteers were asked for, I sat there and pondered the idea. I should ...

24th And I’m At Home

It is the morning of the 24th September; around 8:30, and by all accounts I should not be here.
In fact I should be some where in Scotland on a bike making a dash for the border, taking part in another end to end cycle ride. Yet instead I’m sitting here with a laptop trying to decide what to do today.

Beginning of the month everything looked to be on track for another crack at cycling the length of the British Isles. I’d booked the holiday, started the training and was feeling in good form for the event. Then with only a week to go the company that Dave works for; who originally set this up as a charity event, pulled the plug! Not a compromise or a deal to be struck just a rug pulled out from under us.

To say I’m gutted is a bit of an under statement, the last few months have been spent clocking up the miles. I even built a bike for this year’s ride and had great hopes for it.
Now I’ve still got the week off so I’m sitting here surfing YouTube and generally just wasting time. No matter as Halo3 will be out in a couple of days…

Blag some new kit

Online cycle shop Wiggle are running a competition at the moment where they are giving away a full Shimano XT groupset.
All you have to do is tell them why you dersve it over all overs. Here is my excuse:

I think I deserve a new XT groupset as my bike needs one badly and I’ve begged the other half but I can’t buy anything new until she has her wisdom teeth out. So I’m having to ride around using a worn XT which really doesn’t know what gear it wants to be in! And she thinks she is in pain!

My Marin has been running the same setup since purchase and the 4k miles I’ve put on it are beginning to show. Of course I’ve done the usual chain replace but now everything is showing signs of giving out on me.
Yet me bike fund will be dipped into since Lucy visited the dentist to find out that the remaining wisdom teeth need removing!

I think if you want to enter the competition you need to sign up to Wiggle’s newsletter and set up an account, of course making a purchase might help.
