Spammed to Hell

Over the week end my site has been hit my a massive spam offensive.
My defenses against spam are not the greatest, if you have more than one link in your comment you get moderated. Apart from that I rely on the gods of online Casino’s to shine on me to protect my site.
This current wave is a clever one and not relying on a link in the comment section but rather the link to online viagra stores are in the author’s name.
That said the comments about great my site is and how it has been bookmarked is always good to hear, even if they are auto generated.

Have you tried akismet? I started using it a few months ago and it’s just great.

Yeah I installed it last night, really impressed with it plus the set up is a bit simple…

I was just doing a bit of a tidy up and noticed that since the installation Akisment it has blocked over 220 spam comments!
I’ve not had that many geniune comments since the site started.

I also have Akisment activated on my blog. Another recent addition (at the prompting of one of my own commenters) was the security-code plugin… you know, a slightly-distorted graphical code which users must input in order to post a comment. I’ve found that between them they’re stopping all spam, and is much nicer to my readers than forcing moderation :)

That’s a clever way of doing it, or a simple tick box might work.
Have to admit that since Akisment there has been nothing to moderate or worry about.

    Excellent tips. I’m on it!
@a feminist: I’ll be searching for that plugin. Comment here if you have a link…

    Thanks!
