Smoking a no-no
Yesterday the British all voted to ban smoking in pulic venues; including private clubs, by the summer of 2007.
It was only a matter of time really and all I can say is I’m not too sure about the whole thing. I look at it from two sides, the side of me that has just given up smoking and regrets ever starting is pleased about it, it is surprising how the smell of smoke now makes me feel ill. However the side of me that thinks you should be allowed to do what you feel is not so certain. Sitting in pub (public house) yes the smell is off putting and no matter what you do with smoking areas and non smoking areas just does not work. But to completely ban it out right even in private ‘gentlemans’ clubs is a bit strong. I can foresee a underground network of smokers developing; the Dark Marlboro’s they will be known as, they meet every 27minutes in an underground cave, away from the preying eyes of the law, enjoying that smooth taste of burning ash. The MadMax era is upon us people.

Personally I think its brilliant. I know I like the idea as it might mean my Dad is more likely to give up smoking coompletely. On a personal note and from a barmans point of view it will make my job a lot nicer not having to deal with smoke. So a job I already enjoy will be more enjoyable.
Yep, valid points and I do know what you mean. I spent a while working in a bar and not only did it help with the smoking I also found it put me off drinking!
The only part of it I don’t quite see eye to eye on is the banning in private clubs. Surely this is part of the freedom we all crave, if the club’s sole purpose is to provide a place for people to smoke and all members are fully aware of the smoking nature why ban it here. Of course you do end up with the massive grey area of what is right and wrong.
Also just on my mind is the mess, if you can still smoke on the street but not in the pub imagine the piles of cigarette butts outside pub doors.
BTW; good luck with your old man, best decision he’ll make is to quit but it is hard work.
Glad to see youve still given up mate, i remember when you started we used to get an update on the old dao site, well done and keep it up
ahhhhh. I had better fill you in.
I started again last year.
Think it was about the begining of the summer I started again, stupid I know but.. well no excuse really.
Quit again at Christmas as I realised I had so much riding on me with the cycling, not wise to spark up with those people around!
at least you gave up again though mate
You sound like Lucy.
Hopefully this will be the last time, it is still strange to sit in a pub and smell smoke, I still get that feeling of wanting one but I know that it would not do me any good. Think I would pass out now if I had one!
