‘Alert Banner’ hack
Ka-Meng posted a question in the binary bonsai discussion group about trying to implement a ‘Alert’ banner instead of changing code each time. On my daily cruise through the groups I noticed this and for once opted not to remain an unnamed reader and as I thought I could try and help; hmmm…
Needless to say the mod is working with help from Matt Boothby. I’m even trying it out on here, gives me an idea for an update banner as well.
If you fancy making site alerts that little bit easier drop by cause an effect and try it out.

Thanks for the plug Adam! Though I think the hack will eventually be built into K2, so it would probably have a short shelf life.
I had some thoughts of making a plugin out of it for non K2 users - but this means I have to figure out how to add the plugin option onto the WP admin menu. Trying to decipher the plugin codes to see how they work, so it’s all on the drawing board for now.
Wow, your ajax comments seem to work fine on R96. Did you hack anything on the comments or is it straight out of the box? My comment actually appears below the comment input box. Refreshing it only puts it on top of this box. Maybe I should upgrade too.
I can just imagine the headache of upgrading now since I’ve hacked theloop.php into pieces.
I sure am a sucker for punishment.
Have to admit I’ve not messed about with the commenting on this one; straight from the box here! But I know what you mean about fear of updating. I’ve changed so many files (not big stuff just a bit here and there) that to keep up to date now is going to be a nightmare.
I like the idea of a non k2 version, the options panel under general is the best place really, if I ever find that 27 hour day I’ll have a look!
Thank you for the plug! Graciously appreciated.
No worries there Matt.
I had a quick look at a non-k2 version, thats about as far as I was happy to take it. The K2 options file is nice and easy to understand but the WordPress options, crap sitting there trying to read three pages of code and get your head round it. Something for a cold evening I think.
I rather go to bed instead lol
