Why Can’t They Make Up Their Minds!!
At the moment, Delphi (where I work) is on its annual factory shutdown. As part of the maintenance team, i was offered a chance to go in and help with the reconstruction of one area of the factory, so that I could take the holiday at another time of the year. I agreed and all week i will be disconnecting, moving and re-connecting machines within our filter department. The managers and service engineers of this reconstruction have been planning it for almost 18 months now, yet in the last two days we have had to re-position all the machines to different locations that were originally shown on the plans. One machine has been shifted 6 times now, just so they get it where they want it. This sounds simple, but this involves jacking up the machine, placing it on skates (heavy duty rollerskates), moving it to the right place and dropping it down again. I think the heaviest machine is around 5 tonnes, so it’s not an easy job. Now they are finding that they have forgotten to put in some essential services for the machines to run, such as compressed air supplies, soft water supplies and even electrical connection to plug them into. Nice one guys, good planning!!!
